The Igneous Method

The first step toward your Igneous board is determining your shape and construction profile. To start, see the below overviews. We're glad to assist with a detailed discussion to help you determine the perfect shape and construction profile for your riding style. Next, select your topsheet. Once we've confirmed the whole design over the phone or in-person, Igneous will construct your board in 2-3 weeks.

Snowboard Shapes Overview

Ski Guide

The 2017-18 line represents over 20 years of research and development in the Tetons and other mountain ranges around the world. Each shape and matched camber profile are available in various lengths, and width is flexible to fine tune your board to you. Igneous will also make any full custom shape and camber profile you want.

Construction Profiles Overview

The construction profile will heavily influence ride characteristics at different speeds and in varying terrain and conditions, as well as determine carry/split-board skinning weight. Select your construction profile based on your intended application(s). Once you have a profile in mind, we'll work with you to determine your final construction based on binding style, size, age, and gender.

  Construction Profiles
ALL-MOUNTAIN
Maple / Ash

Maple/Ash cores optimize the responsive high-energy ride of Hard Maple with the impact and vibration absorption of White Ash. 22 oz of stitched, triaxial fiberglass enhances torsional rigidity.
BACKCOUNTRY
Maple / Ash / Fir

Blending Fir with Maple/Ash creates a far lighter board ideal for pure backcountry and split-boarding. 16 oz of stitched, triaxial fiberglass enhances torsional rigidity.

ULTRA-LIGHT
Maple / Ash / Fir / Carbon (+$99)
Blending Carbon and Fir with Maple/Ash creates the lightest possible board for backcountry hiking and split-boarding while providing optimum performance. 8 oz of stitched, triaxial fiberglass enhances torsional rigidity.

Materials & Build

We handbuild your snowboard's core based on your construction profile, blending hard maple, white ash, fir, and carbon. For splitboards, Igneous builds two separate cores with full sidewalls around each, increasing longevity and flex consistency. All Igneous boards have quartersawn hard maple sidewalls, which provide superior impact resistance to ABS and higher structural integrity than P-tex.

Depending on your construction profile, varying weights of premium composite stitched triaxial fiberglass will enforce the stiffness and torsional rigidity of your skis. Bulletproof Kevlar protects from rocks and strategically placed rubber foil dampens chatter on crud.

Typically found only on race boards but found on all Igneous boards, sintered graphite bases are fastest, hold more wax, and are always all black. We stone grind them and apply a medium-coarse cross structure, base conditioner, and warm wax with cold wax overlay.

Precision-tuned, hand-filed and polished oversized hardened steel edges are strong, fast, and provide both durability and tuning longevity.

Topsheets

Igneous' hardwood topsheets not only lend unique character to our skis, they also provide additional rigidity. Wood is the original high-tensile crosslinked polymer matrix, and combined with our high-performance epoxy, the topsheet significantly stiffens flex. Carbon topsheets increase response and reduce weight. Igneous also works with artists on custom topsheet designs.

Care & Warranty

Igneous provides tuning services and instruction. Snowboards are warrantied for defects in materials and craftsmanship for three years or the equivalent of one 100-day season. All service is factory direct.

About Igneous

Igneous has handmade custom snowboards in Jackson, Wyoming for over 20 years. We set out to make the perfect big mountain freeride board that could withstand an entire season of hard-charging in Jackson Hole, a place notorious for devouring boards. That mission remains.
